Computer Removal

Removal of Computers and Equipment

The RFISD Technology Department Staff strives to maintain a modern efficient teaching environment. A balance of new technology and cost-effectiveness is paramount to any successful program.

A determination of need must be completed before any computers or equipment are removed from inventory. It is also necessary to determine if this equipment can be reassigned to another location.

Answer these questions:

  1. Is a primary computer below minimum operational standard?
  2. Is the repair cost in excess of the computer's value?
  3. Is a non-standard computer in use or needed for a special program?
  4. Can this equipment be reassigned?
Disposal may be necessary due to:
  • Technology-related equipment becoming outdated
  • Repair of damaged equipment can exceed the replacement value
  • Equipment no longer in use
  • Equipment cannot be repaired in a cost-effective manner

All Hardware is only removed from inventory via donation or auction. Donations are only to another nonprofit organization approved by the business manager. Request for equipment should be coordinated with the Business Manager and Technology Department

The auction of excess equipment will occur twice a year. The auction will be coordinated with the maintenance department. Winter sale will be tentatively scheduled for Late February. Summer sales will be shortly following the end of the school year.

The process is as follows:

  1. Asset/Computer is removed from the site and taken to TechnologyRepairCenter.
  2. Hardware and Software inventory of assets is completed and recorded
  3. Useable parts and licensing are recovered
  4. Item is labeled for auction
  5. Item is delivered to the designated auction site
  6. Removal from master inventory completed at the time item is donated or entered into auction
Hardware inventory will include item description, serial number, and new/old ISD information. This is provided to the maintenance dept. for removal from the master inventory.

Software Inventory will include BackOffice/COR CAL, Office License, Operating system license, and application licensing. Software inventory is used in the determination of future licensing needs.
