Computer Maintenance

Computer Maintenance:
This includes the repair or replacement of monitors, hard disks, floppy drives, keyboards, mice, network cards, and video cards. Maintenance of computers would also incorporate necessary software updates.

The Technology Support Department will keep an appropriate amount of these parts on hand for prompt repair of broken computers that are out of warranty. The department currently has some of these parts on hand and will maintain an inventory of these parts to ensure that supply remains constant.

Computers that are covered by a warranty will receive replacement parts through a warranty program. Currently, the average turnaround for parts replacement is 3 to 5 business days. If the computer is determined to be crucial to the learning process and cannot wait 3 to 5 days, we will provide a temporary replacement part, if available, until the true replacement part arrives.

Computer Upgrades:

Computer Upgrades would be performed in a needs-only situation. The District has a minimum computer-purchasing standard, which is established to minimize the need for upgrades throughout the life expectancy of the computer system. The items that would be considered for upgrading would be memory, hard disk, and system software.

Replacement of Computers:

Computers in need of replacement are determined by their age, cost to repair or increased job demand of the machine. As a general rule, the district will attempt to replace primary computers that are older than 5 years with more current computers. The Technology Department maintains a computer database that allows them to determine which computers are 5 or more years old. In the case of a computer that has parts broken that exceed the value of the overall computer, the computer would be subject to replacement.
