I was born and raised in San Antonio, graduated from Business Careers High School in 2003 and Baylor University in 2007. While this is my first year at RFHS, I have been a teacher for 13 years at several high schools. During my time, I have taught all 4 core high school Social Studies subjects and Debate. For the past 18 months I was teaching English in Novosibirsk, Russia. I love to travel and have been able to visit 30 different countries and just returned in June from living abroad in Siberia. Living abroad taught me many things about myself as well as how to appreciate the freedoms we have here in the U.S. I look forward to meeting each of you and sharing this educational experience together.
“Education is the passport to the future, for tomorrow belongs to those who prepare for it today”- Malcolm X. As the quote so aptly states, education is the key to the opportunities of tomorrow. Education is the heart and soul of progress. As a teacher, when I see a student, I don't see data, past failures, behavioral issues or a problem child. What I see is potential waiting to be unlocked; a diamond-like force, hidden beneath layers of humanity. Each child who comes to a school is looking for an opportunity to be creative, to explore their passions and to be driven to succeed by someone who does so themselves. I love teaching because I have a curiosity and desire to explore, discover and learn which is at the core of education. Though the technologies have changed and the world around us with it, people are still innately curious and hungry to learn. Children who are given the kind of rigorous education offered at RFHS find themselves engaged through multiple outlets and teachers who care about them on a personal level. This kind of educational experience brings out the best in learners, students and teachers alike. My simple philosophy of education is that “Iron sharpeneth iron; so a man sharpeneth the countenance of his friend.”- Proverbs 27:17. We must be the iron which hones the students in front of us as they will do the same to those who follow.
I love traveling, sports, movies, music, books, video games, spending time with my family and chess. I try to do each of these regularly and also do some new things to keep my mind and body active. My favorite things are to meet new people and share life with those around me.
