The ACISD birding teams took their second field trip of the year to the Fennessey Ranch near Bayside, TX on Saturday, October 26th, 2019. This ranch is known state-wide as a premiere birding /photography/hunting/star gazing location. We were quite fortunate to be given free admission and a tour of the ranch by Nature Manager Sally Crofutt and assistant, Nathan. Although the morning temperatures and wind were a little tough at first, we sincerely appreciated Sally's patience, sharing of knowledge, expertise, hospitality, and friendship! Students were able to log down 38 species of birds.
Students participating this morning includes:
Rockport-Fulton Middle School assistants - Beau Blankenship, Michael Jones, Ty Self, and Chase Waggoner
5th graders - Ty Blankenship, Juliet Flores, Elsie Hale, Lauren Holden, Kathryn Jones, Jake Self and Payten Vannapha
4th graders - Ryan Brewington, Kinslee Burton, Cason Cruzan, Cruz Dominguez, Arwen Griffith, Conner Hale, Jacinta Pham, Faith Stiles, & Riley Waggoner.
3rd graders - Blaine Chapman, Kennedy Engel, and Everett Gambill
Students were accompanied by their Aransas Bird and Nature Club mentors Bron Rorex Carrier and Skip Carrier plus FLC school sponsor Martha McLeod.
The team was thrilled to see a Bald Eagle perched on top of a nest on electric transmission poles. This was the first day the eagles had returned to the Fennessey for the fall season. The bald eagle pair has been nesting on the Fennessey for 10 years.
Thank you again Sally for a fabulous morning!
