Third Grade FLC Students Harvest Carrots From the Garden!
FLC 3rd graders in the Henderson/Yzaguirre/Pina and Rodrigue/Whitten groups harvested fresh carrots from the school gardens on Monday, February 25th. The seeds were donated to the school by Baker Creek Heirloom seeds out of Mansfield Missouri last fall. Students planted the seeds in October, then fertilized with organic enrichment back in November. I am proud to say the harvest was an outstanding success! Thank you Shelly Henderson for your fabulous photos from yesterday!
Carrots are perhaps best known for their rich supply of the antioxidant nutrient that was actually named for them: beta-carotene. These delicious root vegetables are a great source of beta-carotene and a wide variety of other antioxidants and health-supporting nutrients.
