Freshman Pirates Improve to 6-0
The temperatures may be cooling off but the Freshmen Pirate football team is heating up the grid iron. Last night the Pirates played host to the neighboring and inland Pirates of Sinton. The real Pirates showed up to play when John Chupe took the opening kick off for 71 yards down to the Inland pirates 15. From there RF would take the field and drive the short distance to score on a 4 yard Chupe touchdown. That would give Chupe his 9th TD of the season. The Pirates would be unsuccessful on the extra point attempt.
Sinton would take their first kickoff return back to the 20 yard line for RF only to have it brought back by a holding call.
The defense would fight hard but could not hold off Sinton as they tied it up 6-6. Sinton would miss the extra point after it was blocked by Joe Moreno. RF would get the offense back out on the field and start off on another awe inspiring drive lead by QB Tommy Franks and John Chupe. "That guy is like a magician on the field, he gives the defense the illusion that he is going down, lets everyone fly over him and then he takes off again." said Head Coach and Athletic Coordinator Jay Seibert.
The second half would heat up (like usual) for the Pirate offense. Tommy Franks showed heart and determination to lead the Pirates by taking the ball for some long runs on QB sneaks as well as picking up a 1st down on a tough 4th and 2 situation. Tommy lifted up and held the team on his shoulders.
Players of the game on the special teams would be Skylar Bryant who made a big hit on the 7 yard line to stop Sinton from having a big return. This would force Sinton to throw the ball to move as they were getting short on time. Both Carson Flores and Chupe would have pass break ups that would help stop Sinton.
The Pirates would get the ball back and have a big drive that started off with a 37 yard pass from Tommy Franks to Chupe up the side line. Scoring for the Pirates would be rumble and stumble for a touchdown by Phillip Krupa. Joe Moreno would also score on his first play in at QB on a 19 yard run.
Between the offense and the defense there is not much these Pirates can't do.
Post game interviews with Joey "The Jet" Jasso, "These Pirates are something to see, they run a lot like I did back in the day, when I was a young Jet running for the Sinton Pirates, but hey, they do a heck of a job." "As a former Sinton Pirate, I will say it is great to see these young guys and real Pirates are fun to watch, especially when they play Sinton."
Tonight The Real Pirates Have a Big Night. The Lady Pirates will be playing Sinton at 4:30 for what might be the match of the year. Then stick around for the night cap with the Real Pirates playing Sinton for the first game of district and the start of the road to State.
