Superintendent Patek announces Campus Alignment Changes

District ACISD Employees,

Two years ago the Board charged me with the task of finding a way to maximize Pre-Kindergarten enrollment and consider re-aligning campuses to help make this happen.  I looked at several different options but there always seemed to be a major obstacle with each of the options.

After Hurricane Harvey hit our schools causing substantial damage it created a viable option to accomplish some of the District's goals.

With many discussions and much planning I would like to share the campus re-alignment plan developed by my staff and I.  This plan has been presented to and unanimously agreed upon by the ACISD Board of Trustees.

Odyssey will occupy the North Wing of Old Live Oak

PPCD and PK will occupy the South Wing of Old Live Oak and the new portables on that site.  With reduced student enrollment due to Harvey, we can re-assign two Kindergarten teachers to Pre-Kindergarten next year giving us six Pre-Kindergarten classes with the goal of eight classes in the next two to three years.

Live Oak becomes a K-2 campus.

Fulton Learning Center becomes a 3-5 campus with the addition of five new portables (10 Classrooms) + the utilization of 2 classrooms on the North Side of Fulton, if needed.

Little Bay Primary will be restored and placed on the market for sale.  With the proceeds of this sale, the money will be used to build a wing at Fulton Learning Center to permanently house the added grade level.

By putting this plan in place the District will see:

  • Increased enrollment numbers in the Pre-Kindergarten classes next year
  • Improvements to TEA accountability opportunities for the District by no longer having a campus with only one tested grade level
  • A safer environment for our 3, 4, and 5 year olds by removing them from a campus located on a busy highway with heavy traffic.

Thank you for your continued support.

Joseph Patek

Superintendent of Schools
