Rockport Pilot sports correspondent, Steven Smith recently visited the Rockport-Fulton High School Journalism and Yearbook class to share real world news experience writing about local sports while capturing action in photography. Smith spoke about pacing yourself when covering an event, how to snap good action pictures plus record accurate and interesting information. Steven stated that he learned much about photography once he began covering sports in February, and how he sought advice from professional photographers, such as Larry Doonan and a good friend from Kingsville. Yearbook students use Adobe InDesign program, which is the same platform Steven is required to use to put together is sports news stories. Smith admitted that the program was difficult at first, but he has grown to appreciate it for publication layout.
Steven Smith is a 2009 graduate of RFHS and has a degree in Kinesiology. The fourth period class was grateful to hear how they may apply skills learned in the classroom to media industry related jobs.
